Job Summary and Mission  
This job contributes to Starbucks success by leading company-wide business development, transaction execution, internal consulting and cross-functional project management including the development and assessment of new business opportunities and the execution of all company mergers and acquisitions, significant strategic alliances and joint ventures. Assimilates financial and non-financial information to influence short, medium and long-range decision making. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.  


Summary of Key Responsibilities  
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

 

Leadership - Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:  

  • Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.  
  • Supports the implementation of company programs to ensure the success of the Company.  

 Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:  

  • Assesses the viability of new business opportunities, alliances, joint ventures and products.  
  • Evaluates and recommends market entry models and business structure options for new markets, including entry strategies for new business channels.  
  • Leads team comprised of relevant business functions in the development of strategic business plans, alliances or joint ventures.   

Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:  

  • Provides critical, holistic strategic thinking to business problems and helps identify solutions
  • Leads due diligence, financial analysis and reviews business cases for projects, acquisitions or alliances. Leads cross-functional teams to facilitate the development and transition to operations of new business lines, products or services.  
  • Is and acts as an authority on valuation and corporate finance matters
  • Directs the development of financial and business models used in assessing the potential for new business opportunities, equity investments, acquisitions and strategic alliances or joint ventures.
  • Identifies, evaluates and makes recommendations to executive management on new business opportunities, products, alliances, partnerships and acquisitions.  
  • Leads negotiations process for formal agreements and contracts with external parties to support new and emerging business models including those with licensees, potential partners, acquisition targets and vendors.
  • Displays solid understanding of commercial contracts and interplay of key terms and uses this knowledge creatively to develop structures and solutions that meet business objectives. 

Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:  

  • Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.  
  • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.  
  • Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.  
  • Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.  
  • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.

  • Financial analysis, budgeting and planning  (10 years)
  • Investment analysis, valuation and financial modeling  (10 years)
  • Progressive experience managing varied planning, financial analysis, and business management practices in a large global company with emphasis in retail, consumer product or distribution  (10 years)
  • New business development experience, including transitioning from initial concept through implementation  (7 years)
  • Leading mergers and acquisitions review and execution, analyzing business proposals and leading due diligence process and structuring transactions (7 years)
  • Reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts  (5 years)
